Dare to be aware

Nobody likes to be confronted with the discomfit of their own conscience. It’s much easier to blank unpleasant thoughts and pretend there is nothing to be done. Many people squirm and say ‘urgh - I don’t want to think about it!’ when approached about the reality of how and where their meat comes from.

But what they don’t realise is that by ‘not thinking about it’ they are in fact ‘promoting’ one of the most hideous practices mankind has ever invented.

What if, instead of turning away, you took a brave step and said, ‘yes, I could do something to alleviate this situation’. What if you were totally honest with yourself and said ‘I make an impact on this world and every decision I do or don’t make has a direct impact on someone or something else’. What if you just said ‘From today onwards I am going to eat less meat’. It really is that simple.
How would you feel? Liberated? Empowered? Relieved?  Your body certainly would! Click here for 10 reasons why meat is bad for you.

Not so long ago in the golden olden days when farms were allowed to be farms and factory farming didn’t exist, people had a much healthier attitude towards meat. Not only they were prepared to pay the real price but they also only ate meat once or twice a week on average. The Sunday roast was a meal to be reckoned with and people looked forward the whole week to this special meal with close family and friends. And if they were lucky, enough meat would be left for a stew or rice dish the following Monday.

Meat was a luxury and people treated it as such. Nowadays people eat meat two or three times a day and think it is normal.

Have you ever stopped to think about what actually has to happen before your burger gets in its bun or why your chicken costs as little as it does? Modern life takes great care to make sure we only see what we want to see in our day to day activities.  Sterilised supermarkets belie the pain and bloodshed, the miserable lives full of torture, isolation and pain, the inhumane cruel and hideous deaths experienced by the rows of butchered animals in the fridges and freezers.

It doesn’t have to be this way. A little brave investigation into your comfort zone, a little more compassion for all creatures great and small coupled with a strong belief that even the smallest reduction will have a long term effect on the meat industry is all that’s needed to make a difference.

Put factory farming out of business - start today.
